cannot seem to open my saved Gedcomfiles!
« on: January 06, 2022, 21:31:58 »
:o  After I spent about 6 hours starting out and adding about 172 people to my family tree yesterday, I found that today I cannot open any saved genealogyfile. I am quite shocked  and I wonder if anyone can provide me with any advice

Do you have any message when you try to open your GEDCOM file ?
What version do you use ?
What is your Operating System ?

Hi Zurga

Thanks for your quick response.  I use a Desktop 64 bit system with 8 GB of Ram and Intel Core i5 processor with Windows 10 and Java versio 8 Update 311.

Well; I get the Open Genealogy open  interface, and I see the list of apparently saved.ged files (22 of them) in the folder that I had chosen to save them in, but after I click one, nothing happens.   When I click the button Show file-details button on the top-right of the interface - the files only seem to hold 3 to 7kB of data, and the most recent ones hold no data at all (0 kB).
Only yesterday evening I was able to open files, and they were even listed right on opening the program under "Last opened" - which now only shows the Bourbon genealogy.
I see that an update was performed today  ("GEDCOM compliance") - could this have anything to do with my drastic problem?

Hi Tonny,

If you have 172 people, small size is not surprising. Photos are not the in the Gedcom file. It is purely simple text inside.

Which version of Ancestris please are you using ? 11 or 12 ?

Do not open the last one if it is 0 kb. Open the most recent with size > 0 instead. There must have been something during the last saving.

Send me the last 2 files in private please.

Cheers,
Frederic
