Before I (probably) struggle in vain, I posted your answer on the Haiku forum (https://discuss.haiku-os.org/t/java-openjdk/2583/37).

I installed openjdk11 from HaikuDepot, which also installed openjdk11_jre. However, ‘java’ could not be found until I also installed openjdk11_default.
Running ./ancentris resulted in… “an illegal reflective access by org.netbeans”
So, probably not very helpful to you but it does try to do something.
Update:
Using JDK8, I got the Ancestris splash screen, and then it crashed.

There was once a working port from Ancestris 0.9 for Haiku.
At some point there were internal changes in the OS and it no longer worked.
Since the creator, Prof. Michel Clasquin-Johnson, did not write or add a recipe, a new beginning would be necessary.

Unfortunately it doesn't help me, not even https://discuss.haiku-os.org/t/haiku-java/8929 and neither do the answers at Ancestris!
I am primarily a user. All answers received so far, no matter where and from whom, are unfortunately written in such a way that I could only use them if I am a freak or at least an 'insider'.
It is probably better if I continue to use my old (also an older version) software (sometimes with serious errors, including data loss, but simply brilliant) under Windows.
I would have preferred to use Ancestris via haiku, but there are more important things in life!

After a long wait, Haiku is now running great on my Zotac ZBOX IQ01.
When it comes to JAVA, decisive things have also happened (OpenJDK, netBeans).
Is that enough (see ScreenShots)?

Da aber bekanntlich der Mann der Großmutter Großvater (oder Opa) heißt, tja... bin ich nun also mein eigener Opa.

Auf diese Frage antwortete am 15.10.2010 Bernhard Wädekin: "Ja: Lonzo and Oscar ... beide sangen 1947 den Song I'm my own grandpa. Die Inspiration soll von einer Anekdote von Mark Twain gekommen sein. Ältere Quellen sollen bis 1822 zurückgehen.

Google Translator apparently didn't translate my message clearly.
If I insert the URL in the translator on the left (original language) and then click on the right (language to be translated), I get a pretty good translation of the original (e.g.: https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide ).
EDIT:
It is best to choose the source language: "Recognize language" and Google Translator will recognize the change (via link) to another language (e.g. from English to French)!
I can live with that!
It only becomes difficult when terms / definitions have to be translated outside of general language use (genealogy-specific).
The program menus / labels should be translated completely and understandably!
I will try to describe the entry hurdles for an entry or transfer user (like me).

A Google translator can translate the manual quite well.
Instructions should only be required to solve very specific problems.
The basic functions and their menu items should be self-explanatory and intuitively understandable.

I will save a copy of my GEDCOM file (isolated) on my new Win 10-set laptop and make any changes to it, which you and Francois advise me to do.
