Oracle patchday 2026/08/19

Hi,
Oracle announced currently the „Critical Security Patch Update“, regarding also Java RE
@ Win11/x64 I unsed until now "java 17.0.11 2024-04-16 LTS", 7.0.20 would be avalable.
Are your recommodations up to date?
Which versin you would recommedn please?

Our recommendation is to use the latest version/patches possible. For Ancestris, that would be 25.

I add that Java is used only as a desktop software, not a web server responding to external requests.
This mitigate the most part of potential security threats.

Thanks, I was a bit confused because I realised that, after jre-8u503-windows-x64, there don’t seem to be any separate JRE versions any more. Is that the case?
But jre-8u503 is rejected by Ancestris. ...

Ancestris needs at least Java 17 to work : https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide/page/versions-compatibility

Thanks for this advice, I forgot Eclipse Temurin JRE (had it much earlier).
180 MB instead of 365, a reduced attack vector – that’s all you need.
