Ancestris User Guide
« on: May 06, 2026, 08:27:46 »
I’ve just moved from Family Historian to Ancestris and imported a Gedcom file. The Import has given me errors but I’m struggling to know exactly what they mean or how to fix them. I can’t find any Tutorials on Youtube and the Ancestris website doesn’t appear to have any form of User Guide - only overviews of the software, but not how to actually use it.
Can anyone please point me to where I can start to rectify these errors and move on with using the software?
Thank you

Ask your questions here.
We are a small group of volunteers, it's difficult for us to maintain comprehensives tutorials.

Our documentation is here : https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide

Thank you for your offer of help - you may regret it! Firstly, from the two screenshots of my import errors, can you explain exactly what the errors are and how do I fix them? Just the one example may be enough to guide me with a lot of the others as they appear to relate to addresses. Thanks again

It seems that the export of Family Historian use GEDCOM extension to create place entities.
Ancestris is not able to understand this type of entity.

If you have possibility to export again from Family Historian with a more compatible version, it will save you a lot of time.

If not : you have to create in each entity where you find a _PLAC tag the corresponding subtag to define correctly the place.
Typically, if you have an individual with :
0 INDI @...@
1 NAME ....
2 BIRT
3 _PLAC @P3@

You need to change it by :
0 INDI @...@
1 NAME ....
2 BIRT
3 PLAC Second Broughshane Presbyterian Church, 3 Raceview Road, Broughshane, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
4 MAP
5 LATI N54.8924306
5 LONG W6.2111583

And do this for all places of your GEDCOM file.

I hope you will able to export again...
