Moving from Family History to Ancestris
« on: May 05, 2026, 08:46:19 »
Hi. I’m completely new to Ancestris and I’m looking for some guidance. I have a saved Gedcom file (from Family Hostorian it was actually a GDZ file) and on initial Import I get the message that it’s not 100% Gedcom compatibile, with the options to convert or leave as is with potential Gedcom anomalies. Which is the better option to save problems further down the line. If I convert, is there a way of checking what may have been changed?
Thank you for any help offered.

Ancestris always keep the previous version of the file.
When you convert, Ancestris create a new file converted and doesn't change the original one.
At the end of the conversion process, you have the possibility to review all the modified information from the original file.

Gdz is a zipped file with media. Unzip in a directory to be able to use it in Ancestris.

Thank you.  I've got the Gedcom imported but with errors so I now have a lot of learning to do!
