Changing WIFE to HUSB
« on: April 02, 2026, 12:29:22 »
Sorry for asking so many questions. I tried to find the answer in the Documentation and through an AI search.
My previous software (Personal Ancestry File) did not allow same-sex marriage. Therefore I entered one of the partners as female at the time.
In Ancestris I want to correct this deviation from reality. I changed his SEX to M without problem. However, his role in the family is still shown as WIFE. I cannot find how to set it to HUSB.

It is not possible.
GEDCOM structure doesn't allow to put 2 HUSB or 2 WIFE in a family structure.
You always have one defined as HUSB and the other as WIFE, even they are same-sex.

Well, that is clear.
At the same time, I find it disappointing that while same-sex marriage has been legal for over 25 years, GEDCOM forces one of the male partners to accept a WIFE role.
I don't blame Ancestris, as they don't control the GEDCOM structure. (And I applaud Ancestris's principle to adhere to the GEDCOM standard 100%.)

And reciprocally, one of the female to be defined with a HUSB role.

This is understandable, however: the purpose of GEDCOM is to transmit genealogical data, most of which is much older than the last 25 years.
