Feature request (Dynamic Tree and Editor)
« on: May 02, 2025, 08:55:30 »
I’m requesting new features – unless they already exist and I just haven’t found them.

1. Automatic width of frames in a dynamic tree – for example, by specifying a minimum size and an “auto” checkbox. The minimum size would prevent the frame from disappearing. Of course, a “maximum size” field could also be added to ensure the frame doesn’t take up the entire screen.

2. Linking the font size in the tree to the frame size when zoom is used. Currently, zoom only affects the frame size – the font size remains unchanged, which breaks the formatting. This functionality could also be handled with a checkbox. Zoom would then scale both the frame size and the font size simultaneously.

3. A “show in tree” button in editors. This button would center the tree on the person selected in the editor. I saw this feature in a YouTube video, but it seems to have disappeared? A separate button is preferred so that the tree doesn’t automatically jump every time someone is clicked in the editor. The search function could also center the tree on the found person (and if someone finds this bothersome, a separate checkbox could toggle this behavior).

1 - We work on it but the code of the dynamic tree is very complex and we are not actually able to do what we want without break everything.

2 - Same as point 1.

3 - You have a button in the tree toolbar to center the tree on the current selected individual ( https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide/page/dynamic-tree#bkmrk-bouton-recentrer-la- )

1 and 2 - I understand. I hope it will be possible one day.

3 - It really works – I didn’t notice this option – but is it possible to add functionality that would rebuild the tree and show the person who is not currently visible? My tree is quite large, and I encountered an issue: I found a person in the search bar, it appeared in the editor, but I couldn’t find it in the tree. Rebuilding the tree around that person would solve the problem."

2 buttons further : https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide/page/dynamic-tree#bkmrk-change-root-entity-b
This should fulfill your request.

Note that some individuals could be not linked to any other individuals and not seen in the current tree.
You can see any individuals with the graph view.
You will see the families groups in you genealogy.
