'Deceased indicator' in Entities table
« on: January 02, 2025, 06:27:45 »
Have started using Ancestris, just finding my way around.

1. Is there any way to view in the entities table if a person is living or dead?
2. Is there any indicator or event in the gedcom to denote whether I have met that person?

Thank you.

Welcome to Ancestris!

To answer your questions:

1: You can see that from the Death column, if there is a date in there, the person is dead.
2: There is no official GEDCOM tag, to denote that. (GEDCOM is in capitals, officially)

Suggestion:
Look in the extensive English Help file https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide for the answer on a lot of questions.

In there is an explanation too, about how to add columns to the entities table and how to sort them.

Have fun with Ancestris.

Thank you for your response.

Is there any workaround for the deceased indicator? e.g. If a death event is added, some symbol to be visible?
This is possible in MyHeritage.

There are multiple ancestors whose death date is not known.

Thanks in advance.

This is possible in MyHeritage.
As far as I know, we are not MyHeritage.
We don't have their money power nor their workforce.

Add a DEATH tag with no date.
Then you can add some markers in the dynamic tree to test the presence of DEATH tag
https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide/page/blueprints#bkmrk-balise-%3Cmark%3E

For me, if the birth date is obviously older than the expected lifespan, I assume the individual is dead.
No need for a specific indicator.
