Is there a Notes report?
« on: July 09, 2024, 09:51:37 »
I am trying to find an on screen listing or report that shows all my Notes. i.e. not just view a note attached to an individual.

If there isn't one, is there some generic way of extracting and listing this information?

Thanks.

Goodmorning,

You could try to do an export of the NOTE's tab of the entity table.
That gives you a textfile.
Is that what you want?

Cheers,

You could try to do an export of the NOTE's tab of the entity table.

That does dump the whole text (unformatted) but does not indicate the individual it is linked to.

We don't have this by default.

You can adapt a GedArt report to display only the notes and the individual.

It does.

See screenshot where i just asked excel to input it.
As you can see it has the NOTE's ID's as the first column
Excel sees the columns.
Sorry its in Dutch but I guess you can understand.

So I suggest you try again.

Success, let me know if that works now please.

Yes, that does at least get the data out. Now I need to think about how to ink them to the individuals.

Thank you.

Can you tell us what you want to achieve?

Can you tell us what you want to achieve?

If I look at an individual I can see an attached note.

I want to be able to access the information in the opposite direction. From all Notes, or a selection, to see which individuals are linked to each note.

Why? Some of the notes are "Research Notes" and it would be very helpful to be able to summarise these.

Just double click on a NOTE in the Entitytable will do what you want.

Ah Ok I was too fast, sorry.
When you see the NOTE in the GEDCOM editor, it tells you to what things it is linked.

In this example its only 1 link, but it can be many.
There is documentation about how to use the GEDCOM editor.

In the Dutch docs the GEDCOM editor explanation has more examples, you can have the page trabnslated in English so you are able to read it.
