Hello everyone,
Sorry for the length, but please read on!!
I would like to make an appeal here to all who work with Ancestris, as I need your help.
First, an explanation.
Wikipedia does not yet have an Ancestris page, but new users would consider such a page there reliable, and the name Ancestris would be spread more widely. So, I started this page yesterday. In the draft of the first section, I asked for comments. It turns out that this does not comply with Wikipedia rules. Although I followed the writing style used by other genealogy programs there.
There will need to be secondary references, references to online pages that do write about Ancestris, but have NO connection with it.
So not Ancestris itself, because then it is "advertising" according to Wikipedia rules.
If not, the page will be deleted, and we don't want that.
And that's also the problem. Much of what I find on the internet now refers to a very old version of Ancestris, where sometimes the reviews are from versions before version 10 and then only have a moderate score.
Now I am trying to write to the relevant websites to persuade them to write a review of version 12, so that I CAN use this as a secondary link for the Ancestris Wikipedia page. Then there is a greater chance that the page WILL be accepted. There are not many other useful articles about Ancestris to be found online.
Secondly, Zurga has recently made me co-administrator of the Ancestris Facebook page. Of the new one, mind you, because the old page was hacked.
Zurga and I are trying to get this old page deleted, but unfortunately it is not that simple. Zurga and I have informed Facebook that the old page has been hacked. But there is no longer any access to that page, so we hope that Facebook will delete the old page after our complaints.
This old page is certainly no longer an advertisement for Ancestris !!
All this above brings me to the following questions for you:
Point 1:Would you like to take a look at the new Ancestris Facebook page?
I write there in English, sorry for that, but Facebook will automatically translate this for you.
The link is:
https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61560536917021You can recognize this correct new page by the cover photo with the background of the handwritten paper, just like that is visible on the official Ancestris website itself, with the Ancestris logo on top.
If possible, like and follow the new page so that we can build up a list of followers and likers again. (the followers and likers of the old page are going to be lost)
Let me know below what else you would like to see there.
For now, I have pinned 3 important messages so that they are always visible at the top of the page.
Point 2:The old Facebook page, the link is:
https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057216649347The old page has as cover photo a white background, with ONLY THE ANCESTRIS LOGO !!!! So without the paper background.
If you have ever liked or followed the old page, would you please turn off the like and unfollow the page. (the old page currently has 93 likes and 119 followers) The fewer remain there, the better!
Point 3:Reviews!
Reliable, well-known review sites could also be used as secondary links for that Wikipedia page. But of course, Ancestris would preferably come out well there.
Point 4:Articles online.
Independent pages with articles about Ancestris are also important. If you are a member of a genealogy group with a website, please ask if they can dedicate a (short) online article to it. And post the link below.
I have found a number of pages that are about Ancestris, but I only mention those where you can leave a review. Maybe an idea??
Do you know a review page that is not in this list, give the link in a private message, preferably not below. Then I will edit this post so that all links remain together and are not divided over separate posts.
https://ancestris.software.informer.com/votes/https://sourceforge.net/projects/ancestris/reviews/ (This is a very old version, but in the comment you can indicate which version you reviewed.)
https://www.saashub.com/ancestris-alternativeshttps://www.sitejabber.com/categories/genealogy (no reviews of Ancestris yet)
https://ancestris.en.softonic.com/ (no ancestris yet!!)
Unfortunately, the GenSoftReview website no longer exists.
Thanks in advance for reading this long post.
Maybe we can boost Ancestris together.
Regards,
Tineke
