Hello,
I migrated from MyHeritage to Ancestris. I have a tree of almost 40000 persons. So I cannot change 40000 x GIVN manually.
At MyHeritage my GIVN format was like:
0 @I2@ INDI
1 NAME Jochem Hanzes /Jager/
2 GIVN Jochem Hanzes
2 SURN Jager
1 SEX M
At Ancestris my GIVN format became like:
0 @I2@ INDI
1 NAME Jochem Hanzes /Jager/
2 GIVN Jochem, Hanzes
2 SURN Jager
1 SEX M
So suddenly I have a comma between the two first names of GIVN. I always use two first names in GIVN.
Maybe someone knows how to solve this? The problem is I have to use the GIVN format in another program and over there only the old format of GIVN is working.
Many thanks.
Best regards,
Sjoerd Jager

Hi Sjoerd,
What we could consider is doing an export facility for the program you are talking about... What is it please ?
Best,
Frederic

Don't forget that according to the gedcom specifications, the given names must be separated by comma
--- Code: ---NAME_PIECE_GIVEN: = {Size=1:120}
[ <NAME_PIECE> | <NAME_PIECE_GIVEN>, <NAME_PIECE> ]
Given name or earned name. Different given names are separated by a comma.
--- End code ---

Hi Frederic and Sjoerd,
I looked it up in the gedcom and it turns out the comma (for more then 1 is in the GIVN tag in Gedcom 5.5.1, but in Gedcom 7.0.13 it is possible to have more than 1 GIVN tag for 1 person.
So in fact it looks to me that muheritage outputs it wrong and Ancestris corrects it according to the specs.
But he reads that Ancestris gedcom into a Dutch online service: "genealogieonline", url: http://genealogieonline.nl/ and they keep that comma in.
So an export from Ancestris then should produce an incorrect gedcom to make that online service happy.
Thats what i think.
But that is strange, as Ancestris has to output a "wrong" gedcom.
As far as i know he already asked that online service to correct the input, but i have my doubts they will do that.

Tineke

Hi Frederic,
Sjoerd and I had some private conversation today, in which i explained the gedcom things and more.
The example he mentiones comes from this online page:
https://www.genealogieonline.nl/stamboom-jager-en-dijkstra/I2.php
As you can see it says: "Jochem Hanzes (Jochem, Hanzes) Jager".
So Jochem Hanzes is mentioned 2 times. The second time in between () and separated with a comma.
He explained to me that the firstnames used to be mentioned only once.
When you look at this page https://www.genealogieonline.nl/genealogie-van-der-lende-vanderlende/I3217.php , from another tree, from another owner, it says:
"Antje Jans Jager"
She also has 2 first names, but they are only mentioned once and there is nothing in between () or something following it.
So except from indeed removing the comma, and creating an illegal gedcom to keep that online service happy, i have no idea how to solve this.
I would like to know how that other owner from that other tree, imported his information.
Because he does not seem to have that problem.
Maybe Sjoerd can get in touch with that other owner and ask him?? (Sjoerd???)
