Could you locate your technical log file and send us to show what happened ?

You could find the log file following this documentation : https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide/page/software-files-and-user-settings-files#bkmrk-the-configuration-fi

You can send the file to support @ ancestris . org or directly to me at zurga @ ancestris . org (remove the exceeding spaces characters)

It seems that the file you try to open is on a distant drive.
Could you copy locally the GEDCOM file and try again ?

Thanks. That does work, I can now open a gedcom file. Trying to convert from the windows based program Legacy to a program that works on my iMac. My first impression of Ancestris is good, but the conversion from the legacy gedcom to Ancestris generates a large error file. Legacy can generate different gedcom file. Do you know the best format?

Each genealogy software create its own flavor of GEDCOM.
Ancestris try to be the most compliant with the standard, even we manage some specific elements with specific way to do.
Ancestris import doesn't lose any data. All data are displayed in the GEDCOM editor, even the ones we couldn't understand.
It's up to you to check the type of error and check if Legacy is able do change their export.

If you find some patterns, it is possible to develop adaptation to manage them.

Hallo Jan, Dutch here too.

Coming from Aldfaer. Lots of errors at first also. But when you look closely it might be _xxxTAGs. So tags from Legacy itself, non standard Gedcom tags. They start with underscore.
It is what Zurga said. if there are patterns, they are more then willing to adapt the import for Legacy.

In the near future there will be a complete dutch guide too (only partly now), working on that. Hopefully more about importing and conversion also.

Getting your Gedcom to convert is sometimes troublesome, because lots of programs seem to use their own "Tags", not complying to the Gedcom standard.

But Zurga does a great job in getting the most out of it, so stay tuned!
There is a lot in the pipeline.
What version are you using?

Tineke.
