Merging and UIDs
« on: January 20, 2023, 06:16:08 »
Hello,

Ancestris appears to ignore UIDs when I merge files. That's unfortunate, and in my case unuseable (I have two files with 1000+ people in it, almost all of them duplicates, mangled by two or three different GEDOM processors, at least they all preserved the UID).

Any plans to fix that / possible workarounds?

UIDs ? Are you referring to identifiers of entities or to a REFN tag ?
UID tag doesn't exist in GEDCOM 5.5 and 5.5.1

If you speak about the identifiers, a GEDCOM file can't have same type of entities with the same ID.
So when you merge 2 GEDCOM files, Ancestris is forced to change IDs if there is two entities with the same ID.

If you speak about some _UID tag done by specific other software, we could think about it to take them in account to present as first intention of merge option.
In any cases, we can't merge automatically individuals when there is a merge of files : the user has always choice to do to keep information from one individual or the other.
