Uploading Site to Internet
« on: December 10, 2021, 16:14:05 »
Hello,
New member here, testing out program for large organization.
We are trying to test out Ancestris, in order to see how it would look on one of our websites.

Instead of uploading it directly via FTP or a cPanel, we tried to upload the "webbook" via the instructions, in order to test it out, however they did not give much instruction on the following section.

"Program to launch after generation: name of a executable program to launch at the end of the WebBook creation. If the first character is '0' then this option is ignored. "

Since we currently utilize over a dozen CMS and other types of web programs on our servers and various websites, we were not sure exactly what type of "executable program" you had in mind. Would this be strictly a genealogy program, a html index page, a php script, a link inside a cms program, etc.

Could anyone give is a bit of a hint.
Thank You
FTW

Theses parameters are designed to give the Ftp program you want to use to transfer the data to your server.

The Webbook generates HTML pages (or Php pages if you use the option).
After the generation you have a folder with all the content to send to your server.
If you choose the option of sending it automatically, Ancestris will launch the designated ftp transfer tool to do the job.

We are trying to upload some sample data to a subdirectory on our server. We have tried it multiple times using the built in program, and the only thing that has ended up in the directory is a "cities" folder that is empty.

I am not sure what we are doing wrong, unless it is that we simply saved the test file instead of exporting it to the  Geneanet website, which we have no desire to send it to.

Is there any way we can upload the information directly to our website and if so, what folders and files would we need to upload? What permissions should they be set at and do we need to set up a Database?
Thanks for any further directions.

You can just generate the web book in a directory.
Don't enable 6th step options.
This will create all in one directory.
After you can use what you want to transfer all thing on your server.

You should see a log at screen describing the steps of generation.
Do you have error in it ?
