Timeline view font
« on: July 10, 2021, 16:55:43 »
I have adjusted the Ancestris default font option by adding "--fontsize 24" to the ancestris.conf file in .ancestris/trunk/etc. However, the display of the Timeline report is still very small.

The zoom in the window's toolbar only changes the zoom of the timeline, not the actual data.

So I tried using the snapshot and pasting it into a graphics program but the resolution is still extremely poor.

How do I fix it?

OK, you just pointed out something we have to correct.
There is no way to change the font of the time line.
I add this to the to-do list.

Done.

It should be available in the tomorrow update for the daily version (v12).

It's not quite working for me yet, but there has been some change.

The Individual view of the Timeline now uses the default font size I have set, but not the Events mode. I also cannot access the dialog for "Configure View". The button recognises the "mouseover" but does not open the dialog.

I have also discovered that if you take screenshot the Clipboard capture does not work although save to file does. However, the resulting image does not include the timeline's timescale.

Could you indicate the version you use, the OS you use, the Java Version you use ?
Could you indicate the memory you allow to the software ?

Do you have some error (check the "no entry" sign on right bottom) ?
Could you put your log file  (check the documentation to find it : https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide/page/software-files-and-user-settings-files#bkmrk-the-user-directory ) ?

I have no trouble at all with this windows.

Ancestris version:  12.0.11018
Windows 10
Java 8 Update 291

Default options:

default_options="--branding ancestris -J-Xms96m -J-Xmx1g --laf javax.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel"

There is no apparent error message.

UPDATE
=====

I have reset the application font back to 14 both in the Preferences and the ancestris.conf file.

Now when I restart and re-run the Timeline report it still displays the original version, it's like it cached somewhere. The "change the root person" function does not regenerate the timeline either although a new person can be selected in the display.

I don't understand why you can't display the settings windows.
There is no visible reason that explain why the windows doesn't show.

For the font in the event mode, my bad, I miss this one.

For the clipboard, it works but you have to copy the data before closing the message windows and open your image tool before making the clipboard copy. (There is also mention that function doesn't work well with the dynamic tree under some circumstances not explained actually).

For the regeneration of the time-line with new root, it works if you change of branches. If you try to draw the line again from a descendant of the current root, you don't see any changes.

I reverted to the previous day's build of version 12 I had from 9 July. That works and displays the settings window.

So something must have been updated that affects it. (Are your previous builds available publicly?) The settings window displays in the latest version for other views like the Geographic map and the Dynamic tree.

The last version add the list of Fonts in the settings windows.
Beside this, I can't see any differences.
But you should have an error message if the windows is unable to show.
I will check and add log to that.

I use the same type of code that is used to display the font list in the "Graphic ascending and descending tree multi-generations" reports.
Could you open the option of this report ?

So I deleted <your name>\.ancestris\

Downloaded the latest version 12.

Installed again.

All works, so I conclude it must have been something or some conflict held in the \.ancestris\ folder.

Clipboard works again.

So there is just the need to be able to copy the timeline header area for the snapshot.

I'm glad you make it work.

I have trouble with the header part.
The way it is done doesn't allow to copy the two parts in the screenshot action.
If I try to put the two parts in the same action, you will have the same result if you press the print screen key of your keyboard.

So I leave it how it is actually.
