Fire in OVH data center 10th March 2021
« on: March 10, 2021, 08:48:11 »
Ancestris servers are located in OVH data centers.
The fire on the 10th March impacts the good behavior of the software : the launch of the application may take more time than usual because the update check is not responding.
The media synchronization with Geneanet won't work.

We will keep you informed when we get more information.

Ancestris server is located in the OVH's data center impacted by today fire.
There is a chance that the server is not in the burned area.

We have changed the launch mechanism to reduce the launch time. We don't ask the unavailable server anymore.

The Geneanet synchronization API keys are located on this unavailable server so we have disabled the Geneanet synchronization module.

OVH has confirmed that Ancestris server is fine, just stopped due to power outage.
They expect to power the server rooms again next week.

Meanwhile, the documentation, located on this server is unreachable.

We thought we could give you some good news this week, but it's quite the opposite.

We had received from OVH support the assurance that Ancestris server had survived the fire by being in an untouched room, this was wrong.
The server burned down, the backups were lost, body and goods.
There is no chance of recovering anything from the server.

A new server is ordered and we should start reinstalling everything needed to resume normal activity shortly.
We had backups of most of the items on this server.
However, we have lost some of the code change history (not the most recent source code that is present on all developers' workstations).
We will try to reconstruct this history as best as we can for future generations.

We hope to be able to put the documentation back online by the end of the week.

It seems that the server should be ready rapidly.
You should see an update to do when all will be online.

Now it's done.
All Ancestris services are operational again.
- Tree sharing
- Synchronization with Geneanet
Don't forget to update: the server address has changed.
