Peter Hochreiter... The German translator ...

Peter Hochreiter ...
The German translator ...

Does he (still) exist or is his name with a photo a placeholder?
When was the last time he were active?

I miss a German user guidance very painfully!
How should I make the switch (from another genealogy software) to Ancestris without knowledge of English?
He who cries out for tolerance the loudest, exercises it the least himself!

Hi Pollux,

Yes he does exist and has made some update recently, although the picture on the web site is a placeholder.

I will check with him if he can help but regarding the documentation, you will have to cope with the English version for the moment.

To install Ancestris, please check here : https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide/page/install-and-start-ancestris-%28m%29

To migrate from another software, please check here : https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide/page/migrate-your-genealogy-to-ancestris-%28lm%29

How else can we help ?

Regards,
Frederic

Message from Peter :

Hallo lieber Anwender,

die Übersetzung geht momentan leider aufgrund von Arbeitsüberlastung meinerseits etwas zäh voran. Habe heuer aber noch ein größeres Update der Programmübersetzung vor, die Übersetzung zum Handbuch muß leider noch etwas warten.

mit freundlichen Grüßen

Peter

Moin Frederic,

Thank you for your quick response. The response time of the Ancestris team is excellent!

A Google translator can translate the manual quite well.
Instructions should only be required to solve very specific problems.

The basic functions and their menu items should be self-explanatory and intuitively understandable.

@ Peter Hochreiter?
The latter also includes program translation (understandable for beginners / transfer users).
The manual can happily wait to see if the basics can be used without leaving any questions!

>>>
I hope the Google translator translation is understandable!

Hello Pollux,

Thank you for your message.

I understand we could use Goolgle of course, and I do. But it still needs to manually copy paste at a minimum what the result is, and that is not so much quicker than to type in the text directly (when you know both languages).

By the way, we are all volunteers and the software is free. It is not like "we live from Ancestris". "Ancestris lives from us".

It is therefore a matter of priorities. In order to help you with what you need, could you please list the functions that you need help with ? And we will take it from there.

Best regards,
Frederic

Moin Frederic,

Google Translator apparently didn't translate my message clearly.

If I insert the URL in the translator on the left (original language) and then click on the right (language to be translated), I get a pretty good translation of the original (e.g.: https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide ).

EDIT:
It is best to choose the source language: "Recognize language" and Google Translator will recognize the change (via link) to another language (e.g. from English to French)!

I can live with that!

It only becomes difficult when terms / definitions have to be translated outside of general language use (genealogy-specific).

The program menus / labels should be translated completely and understandably!

I will try to describe the entry hurdles for an entry or transfer user (like me).

Best regards,
Pollux

Does Peter Hochreiter actually live in a body?
