Adresses, RESI tags
« on: October 06, 2019, 16:46:43 »
I have many individuals with multiple addresses but they don't seem to show up anywhere (in either editor). In the raw *.ged they appear as, for example:

Code: [Select]
1 RESI
2 DATE 1900
2 PLAC Oswestry, Shropshire, England
2 ADDR 67 Beatrice Street
2 SOUR @S33@
1 RESI
2 DATE 1901
2 PLAC Oswestry, Shropshire, England
2 ADDR 7 Stewart Road
2 SOUR @S15@
3 PAGE PAGE RG13 / 2545
and that info is visible in the Gedcom editor so it's being imported properly.

Is there no support for showing/editing/adding addresses in the Aries or Cygnus editors or am I missing something?

Hi Paul,

Only the Gedcom editor is be able to edit ADDR information for now.

Aries should be able to edit it. That's something missing indeed. I will see if I can add it. I'll let you know.

Cygnus is a simplified editor and will not be able to edit everything. Usually, for events, the PLAC tag is prefered and a street address is rather occasional in genealogy data found.

Best regards,
Frederic

Thanks Frederic, Aries is my preferred editor. Address support in most genealogy programs I've used is poor, probably because there is debate about the gedcom standard! However, I find addresses very useful to see how close individuals were to each other at certain times.

I used to contribute to GenJ (reports Pedigree Chart etc) but have been using Webtrees since Nils stopped development, although its reporting is not very good. Gramps has excellent reporting but poor UI (in my opinion) but it doesn't handle addresses well either as far as I can tell.

Paul

EDIT shouldn't be too difficult to add to Aries as the DATE and PLAC tags for each RESI event are already being grabbed - just need to grab any subordinate ADDR field and display it, maybe after the place field?

Excellent, I think this is the only thing stopping me from using Ancestris and maybe contributing in the future.

Paul,

I have added an Address field to the Aries editor. A simple one. For now, it only picks up the ADDR line, not the sub lines like CITY or CTRY or ZIP (which I think are redundant with the PLAC tag actually).

It will be available tomorrow morning after the nightly update.

Let me know how it looks and if it is useful.

Best regards.

Thank you Frederic, however it needs one further change in my opinion - the ADDR value needs to be concatenated with the event type and date in the event list, as it is for occupations (see attached) :D

Regards

Paul
