Thank you. I understand the issue now. I was able to clean the GEDCOM file with Notepad++ and it's multi-line editor plugin.

Thank you. The geneanet export is working now. Is the backup copy feature working properly? I have it set to "3", but I don't see any backup copies. I tried changing the " backup directory" settings, but that did not seem to help.

Things are going very well with Ancestris, and I appreciate your help. I just got a new computer today which runs Windows 11. I have ancestris running with seemingly no problem. But the geneanet export does not seem to be working, and I don't know why.  I also notice that even though I have Automatic backup set to "4" I do not see any back up files.  Below is a copy of the exception log.  Do you have any tips on what I might try? Thank you.

OK. Thank you. I'll use a text editor to clean it up. And I will go back and read the documentation on reference notes vs embedded notes. I think what I did was when I upgraded the 25 year old GEDCOM file to 5.5.1, one of the main differences was Places. When I tried to change Places to match the new standard, Ancestris asked me if I wanted to also change all 646 times that Place was used. I said yes, and YES! It did make them all the same. It's a good tool. I was not taking any embedded notes into consideration. I think I also did that for a few other Place names, so I'll have to go back through the file and see if I can spot them. Thank you for your assistance.

Hello: I'm not sure, but I seem to have a series of notes attached to a particular place, so when I give a place of birth, for example, a series of about 8 notes appears every time I use that place for another person or another event.  Consequently, The same notes appear on different individuals about 646 times which is every time I use that place. I've gone through the places list and instructions, but I just can't figure this out. I don't see notes attached anywhere in the list of places.  I think I did this when I upgraded to GEDCOM 5.5.1 last month.  Any ideas?

Greetings:
I used a GCODCOM 5.5 file and had Ancestris update it to 5.5.1. For the most part, it all went well. I am working through 2746 Validations of Gedcom compliance and anomalies.  The error for 950 of those reads: "Place's hierarchy format differs from that of GEDCOM Places number of jurisdictions differs from declared format (8 vs 1)."  I attached a screenshot of one such entry.  I can not figure out what is different from this entry than entries that do not have those errors. The error free entries look the same to me as the entries with these errors. Does anyone have any ideas?  Thank you. --Doug

That is a great way to navigate the dynamic tree. Thank you.  I did try that and nothing seemed to happen. I think I see my mistake. Sometimes I may not have the correct tree root selected, so I have to change the tree root to correlate with the person in the editor.
On another occasion though, I will receive an error "Selected entity not visible in the tree".  I have the tree set to show 20 generations and the root in the tree is a direct ancestor only 5 generations back. so I'm not doing something correctly. In one instance (see the attached) you can see in the editor that Joseph E Green had 2 wives, so he is assigned 2 family numbers F2309 and F2341. But the second family F2341 does not appear in the family tree. Consequently when I search for one of the daughters, such as Deborah Green, she will not come up in the tree. Can you tell me why F2341 does not appear in the tree?

When I am using anyone of the 3 editors is there a way to have the dynamic tree jump to the person or family I have opened in the editor.  I see how to right click in the GEDCOM editor to make the family or person the root in the dynamic tree which is very handy, but I don't necessarily want to make them a root, I just want to jump to them. If there is not a way to do that, is there a way to make a person a root in the dynamic tree from the Aires or Cygnus editors? --Thank you.

Hello,
I've recently changed over to Ancestris from GenealogyJ and am using Windows 10.  I am slowly figuring everything out (very slowly). When I set all GEDCOM files on my computer to open with Ancestris by using Select Settings  > Apps > Default apps, I chose ancestris64.exe which shows the generic icon for ancestris (brown box). If I did this correctly, how can I get Windows to display the correct logo, the white ball with the feather? If I did not set the the file typ correctly, can you please tell me how to do it correctly. Thank you.
