ENGLISH / How to modify the path of media files?
« on: August 07, 2020, 10:45:55 »
Hi,

In version 10, there used to be a way to change tha paths of where the media files reside.

In the daily version, the options have been consolidated (which is good) and moved, but I can't find where to modify the media file paths.

Can someone point me where that feature has been moved to?

Thanks

Martin

ENGLISH / (Dutch) Translation issues
« on: July 31, 2020, 13:02:30 »
Hi,

Where is the correct place to file translations issues?

I stumbled over one trying to figure out the best way to transfer names from a Haza-21 GEDCOM output.

In the Dutch version in the Aries editor there is a field "Roepnaam". This is encoded as a NICK record. "Roepnaam" is not the correct translation for "Nickname".

It should be "Bijnaam".

It confused me for a while as I had the impression that Ancestris supports the non-standard concept of "call name", "Ruffname", "roepnaam", but it doesn't, which is OK.

Using a NICK record for call names would not be correct, that should be used for nick names only.

I'm happy with using the NAME:TYPE "Also know as" for call names.

I just wanted to point out the confusing translation.

best regards

Martin

Hi,

Tried with the latest version. The result is a NullPointerException.

I have made a small GEDCOM file and attached it and the log file.

If there is anything I can try out, please let me know.

Thanks

Hi,

Yes, I can open files converted by 10 in 11.

I'll will download the daily update version tomorrow and will report what the trace says.

I need to pre-process the Haza-21 generated GEDCOM output quite a lot, because it is not the best GEDCOM to start with. I don't have a situation where I can "work" in Ancestris yet.

Let's see what tomorrow's trace brings. I'll send you a GEDCOM file tomorrow if that doesn't shed any light on the cause.

Thanks for the quick response.

regards

ENGLISH / non-Ancestris GEDCOM file no longer loads
« on: July 29, 2020, 13:54:43 »
Hello,

I started working with the official version 10.0. I upgraded to the daily version. Now running 11.0.10357.

The GEDCOM file that I am trying to load, originating from HAZA-21, now no longer loads. Ancestris appears to go through the first step (conversion) and then hangs in the second
with a pop-up window with an exclamation mark.

I switched on logging to ALL. The relevant portion is attached.

The GEDCOM file loaded in version 10.

The converted file (with _ancestris) is generated.

Any help would be appreciated.

best regards

Martin

And how do you do that? Change the GEDCOM VERS tag in the header?

ENGLISH / import problem of external media files
« on: June 28, 2020, 11:11:16 »
Hello,

I am new to Ancestris. I am trying to import a genealogy created by my dad in HAZA-21, I have already made many GEDCOM transformations in order to get something reasonably complete and consistent. The file imports into Ancestris.

One of the problems I have encountered is that all external references to media files are not imported. The file names are imported but without path.

The GEDCOM entries all look like this:

0 @O0000@ OBJE
1 FILE C:\Afbeeldingen genealogie\Foto's genealogie\Huw.Meijsen-Schneider 06-08-1988.JPG
2 FORM JPG
2 TITL Huw.Meijsen-Schneider 06-08-1988.JPG

When using the Ancestris Property wizard, it shows that there are 0 references to media files, and there is no way of adding a new location.

I also noticed that when editing one of the media files and adding the path by hand, the complete jpg file is added as a BLOB. I would like to keep simple external references.

I would appreciate any help and hints.

thanks

Martin
