Title: Problem with desktop icons when trying to import data
Post by: gankceso@web-logon.de on April 14, 2021, 12:30:41
Hi,
I'm new to ancestris an tried Version 10, which is said to be stable with windows 10. But when I try to import some ged file, it starts blaming every icon on my desktop which is a dead link. For I'm having lots if icons, which refer to external (NAS) drives, which are not steadily available, it's an endless clicking away of popup windows.
Is there an solution to this? Otherwise ancestris is quite useless for me. :-\

Any help apreciated

To summarize your GEDCOM file is on a NAS and you can't use it in Ancestris ?

Yes, you have right, Ancestris is unable to open file from external sources.
Please copy the file on your computer and you will be able to open it.

The possibility to open external sources is an evolution in our todo-list.

Hi Zurga,
thanks for your fast response. Today I tried again and am wondering what happened meanwhile. IT WORKS!
There was an update from Windows to 2004 19041.928 yesterday, maybe that solved the problem.
My NAS Storage is attached via "net use", i.e. samba and that seems to be no problem.
So I can check if it's worth to get rid of myheritage and change to ancestris. I'm sure, I'll be popping up soon here with new questions. ;)
