I first used Ancestris to make a tree going back from me. Then I made one going down from an ancestor in the nineteenth century. I had filled in more than a hundred people when I somehow found out that everyone had been added as male. I tried to change the females to female but the marriages that I then added were all wrong and the surnames in marriages weren't right. I think you need a feature that forces the user to put in a gender before filling in any information about a person.

Hello,
The gender of a person, is not a mandatory information according to the gedcom specifications, so it's not mandatory to have a gender associated to an individual.
n @XREF:INDI@ INDI {1:1}
+1 RESN <RESTRICTION_NOTICE> {0:1}
+1 <<PERSONAL_NAME_STRUCTURE>> {0:M}
+1 SEX <SEX_VALUE> {0:1}
Beside of that, it's not time consuming to click on male, female or unknown when you create an individual. I would not support such a feature at least for the gedcom editor. Francois

But then you get the problem I mention where later the unions get in a complete mess.
